Thanks to a brillaint quilter - im in awe who very wisely pointed out i hadnt been very clear in my size requirements - I can but blame a combination of "i knew what i meant I just didnt explain very well" coupled with foggy fibro brain resulted in me being as clear as mud. So lovely creative peeps rather than try and explain again i have drawn what im on about :) let see lol
Get an old cerial box and draw an 8" squre make sure you add a seam allowance - this is a good template and stops you going too far wrong see picute 2
As you can see a standard seam allowance for quilting in 1/4" the 1st solid line surrounding the squre - but as people are using all sorts of mediums from photo's - crochet to allow for this you can have a maximum of 1" seam allowance the dotted line.
If you are knitting for instance your square must not go outside the 8" square - this is what we call the finished square size. I hope that helps explain it a bit better
This is very much a work in progress im not a proffessional quilter and thankfully there are far more skilled people than me offering advice..
I can add more photos if that would be helpful

ReplyDeletewoo hoo :) cant wait to see x
DeleteOh, bum. I've just done mine 7 inches like it said on the forum.
ReplyDeleteSorry my fault - but dont worry I can piece it in no problem - there will be spaces (blocks) between sqaures so we can pop it in :)
DeleteI can frame it, if that's any help - sew my four-square piece to one larger square, 16x16? It'll make it stronger, too. What do you think?
ReplyDeleteyou could definately - its a chicken and egg at the minute i dont want to do a design until ive got squares..but what ever we do will need some frames round them.
DeleteFunny i woke up this morning with two ideas swirling round my head one was a house type design - views from a window and the other was a single star on its own and the squares surrounded by stars - with the quilting stitches swirly star bursts..
fab thank you Kate
Yay!
ReplyDeleteWhere do I send it, please?
ReplyDeleteHi kate if you can email me - bethan.morris@rocketmail.com I can send you my postal address :) thank you
